pansy and viola seedlings blooming in standard seed trays

To try to make most use of space ,and keep re potting down to a minimum, I placed trays on top of soil in March and this allowed roots to work down into the raised bed soil beneath.

The very hot weather in April did dry out the trays somewhat, but I was able to evaluate whether to pot on any decent plants for further work.

I would say that out of hundreds of seedlings perhaps only four plants so far are any improvement on current Exhibition Violas and Fancy and Show Pansies one held by me at present.
