Viola plant

This is an example of a cutting taken in May of last year and potted on once to this pot.The plant flowered late last year .

Normally I would have cut off the outer growth from last year this spring which is carrying the flowers illustrated, and just left the new growth coming from the middle of the plant. An inner circle of green shoots without any flowers can be seen if you look carefully.

This would have delayed the plant from producing flowers until the show time needs in June.

I am now quite happy , as the show has been cancelled for this year, to enjoy early blooms for the first time and await after these flowering stems have given this unexpected flush of over forty blooms ,this picture taken on 19th April 2015 in Oxfordshire .
