Whilst I have an insect proof cage(for hybridising) I thought that I would experiment with using string bags, which contained garlic bulbs bought from a supermarket ,to prevent bees from pollinating selected cultivars whilst waiting for stigmas to become receptive for crossing.
They are held upright in place with steel knitting needles.
I have found that flower sticks rot and introduce disease, might be the preservative ?
Also very little pollen available at present from the first frost wind blasted flowers. Will keep trying and give some more tips in the weeks to come.
