Progress of seedlings from those shown on an earlier post.

These are seedlings are from  crosses  John Snocken, international figure in this genus, made using a seedling raised by  the grower the late Kees  Sahin , crossed with Gladys Hughes, then crossed again with Sue’s Choice.

The first cross has resulted in a huge John Powell /Rodney Fuller look alike  with massive velvety bloom.

What the eventual outcome of using Sue’s Choice ,another large bloom, as the pollen parent is going to be in is worth waiting for.

A label for each detailing the cross is essential.

Also found a source of polythene seed trays which are incredibly light and cheap to purchase and insulate the roots.

My plan is to let them develop their first bloom in the trays, evaluate and if good enough take cuttings.

In most garden centres these trays are used for pansies, violas etc and they seem to bloom quite well in them.

I have in the past planted seedlings  into raised beds, but the eventual space used, and the odds of getting an improvement did not justify the extra time spent.
