Frozen bamboo and watching bird

Dscf3145

The section of my garden with pansies, violas,in the forefront, and the bamboo, which has succumbed  to three weeks of being frozen, the leaves showing brown are all dead, at the back of the photo.

The bamboo plants have been in position for twenty years, and survived all those winters. Still I will have some natural cane  when I cut them down, and perhaps the roots might still have survived.

The other object in front of a green compost bin is perhaps a “Grouse/hen pheasant” not sure even after looking at bird identification books.

A fellow bird, but this time jet black has also been seen in the garden.

Never seen these  birds before.
